Nokia 8600 Luna Review

Nokia 8600 Luna Review

A phone comes out every once in awhile that decides to focus on form instead of functionality. Unfortunately, the Nokia 8600 Luna is just such a phone. While it has a great design that is highly fashionable, it is missing a variety of key features that should definitely be present in a phone of its high caliber (and high expense). Overall,  Nokia 8600 Luna looks as though it is a slider phone that inherently did not need to be.

The Nokia 8600 Luna is all about how it looks. It features a fantastic LCD screen that is contains 240 by 320 pixels and is capable of displaying sixteen million colors, making it one of the best in the business. Furthermore, it is lovingly crafted out of stylish materials like aluminum and high grade plastics, giving it a look that is sure to impress. Even the small form factor is sure to turn heads.

Because it the Nokia 8600 Luna looks so darn good, it is difficult to discuss all of the shortcomings of this phone. To start with though, one must go over the very low talk time on the battery life. Now, the battery life is capable of keeping the phone in standby for 240 hours, but that same battery is only able to give the Nokia 8600 Luna less than 4 hours of talk time - a major drawback considering so many phones now can average talk times of nearly twice that. Also, despite the great color depth and resolution of the Nokia 8600 Luna's screen, the camera is only 2 megapixels and produces pictures that are not necessarily up to par.

Moving along, the Nokia 8600 Luna does feature some great stuff such as Bluetooth and a media player, but the media player is castrated due to the lack of any memory add-on slots for expandability, meaning you can only store your songs and videos on the built in memory. Furthermore, there is no 3G or Wi-Fi capability, and there is not even a push to talk function that several other Nokia phones feature for quick chatting with your friends or family.

In all honesty, aside from the stunning good looks of the Nokia 8600 Luna, the only thing that it really has going for it is that it is a quad band GSM phone that is capable of being used all around the world with just the simple switch of a SIM card.

  • Nokia 8600 Luna Pros
    Excellent design
    Magnificent screen
    Good standby battery life
  • Nokia 8600 Luna Cons
    No 3G capability
    No Wi-Fi capability
    Terrible battery life
    No expandable memory
    Camera quality could be better
    Expensive
  •  Nokia 8600 Luna Overall
Despite its obvious good looks, the Nokia 8600 Luna is far too expensive and far too devoid of features to be considered as a worthy investment. It really is a shame that such a fancy looking phone can be assembled with so many glaring deficiencies.
