Nokia 6301 Review

 Nokia 6301 Review

The phone also features a 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, memory expandable to 4 Gbytes and Bluetooth. An enhanced battery provides longer life than the 6300, but is still less than we'd like. Available in silver initially.
The Nokia 6300 was our favourite Nokia of 2007, and launching in January 2008 comes the Nokia 6301 . The Nokia 6301  is almost exactly the same as the Nokia 6300 , but with the addition of one new and important feature: WiFi connectivity with UMA support.

What is UMA? It's a way for you to make free phone calls over a WiFi / WLAN network connection. Very simply, you make a call over a broadband internet connection instead of the usual GSM cellular network. Apart from being free, you have the benefit of stronger reception, and faster data connections. You can use this at home, in the office or in any WiFi "hotspot" such as Starbucks.

The good:
The Nokia 6301 has a simple, easy-to-use design with a brilliant display and well-designed navigation controls. Its functional feature set includes Wi-Fi for VoIP calling, and its call quality is top-notch.

The bad:
The Nokia 6301's microSD card and headset jack are in inconvenient places. It has poor photo quality as well.
The bottom line:
The Nokia 6301is a great choice for a T-Mobile HotSpot @Home cell phone. Just don't count on its camera.
Specifications:
Band / mode: EGSM 900 / GSM 1800/1900 (Tri-Band); Talk time: Up to 210 min; Combined with: With digital camera / digital player / FM radio; See full specs

T-Mobile's HotSpot @Home is a unique and convenient service that allows T-Mobile customers to ditch their landline service completely. The premise is so simple that we're surprised more carriers haven't adopted it. With just a Wi-Fi-enabled phone you can use most hot spots to make VOIP calls that don't cut into calling minutes. You don't need to buy a wireless router--though T-Mobile will gladly sell you one--but you will need a compatible Wi-Fi phone that's branded for HotSpot @Home. Up until a week ago, customers were limited to the Nokia 6086, the Samsung Katalyst, and the Samsung SGH-T409, but now they can choose from the Nokia 6301 and the Samsung SGH-T339 as well. The Nokia 6301 has the more traditional design of the newbie handsets. This silver candy bar screams "Nokia," and the charging stand is something we haven't seen for a long time. Features are solidly midrange--there's a music player, a 2-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth--and its call quality is solidly reliable. It is $179 if you pay full price, but you can get it for $79.99 with service.
