Motorola Z9 Review

Motorola Z9 Review

The Motorola Z9 is a slider phone designed as a variant to the Motorola RAZR2 V9. Made with the intent of capitalizing on the attractive style and groundbreaking design of the original RAZR, the Motorola Z9 features a look that is attractive enough to be pleasing even to those who like to have a phone that is as much of a fashion accessory as a tool to call people with. With plenty of features, and its sleek looks, the Motorola Z9 is a great phone for just about any average consumer.

The Motorola Z9 was announced in April 2008 as a quad band GSM device. This means that it can be used anywhere in the world simply by swapping out the SIM card. Furthermore, when used in the Americas, the Motorola Z9 has access to the 3G HSDPA network for very fast data transfer speeds. Elsewhere in the world, unfortunately, you are limited to slower 2G speeds.

Measuring in at approximately four and a half inches by two inches by a half of an inch, the Motorola Z9 is a fairly large device. It is also rather heavy, weighing approximately 140 grams.

Despite the larger size and weight of the Motorola Z9, the battery life is rather poor. Expect to get only four hours of talk time or 312 hours of standby time on a single charge.

The display mounted at the front of the phone is large and rather attractive. Measuring 2.4 inches in size, the screen can display 240 by 320 pixels. It also allows for 262k colors on screen.

There is also a camera built into the Motorola Z9, but it is not at the high level of quality you see in many fashion phones these days. It features 2.0 megapixels of resolution, video recording capabilities, a flash, and eight times digital zoom.

Multimedia features are plentiful. There is a built in video player and the audio player supports a large variety of different file formats. Furthermore, the built in 45MB of memory can be expanded via microSD cards.

Other features include a large phone book, an alarm, a calendar, a currency converter, a clock, a calculator, a to-do list, a number of voice commands, voice recording, a speakerphone, email support, Bluetooth 2.0 support, AGPS support, and the Opera Internet browser.

  • Pros
    Lots of features
    Attractive design
    3G and GPS support
  •  Cons
    Poor battery life
    Camera could/should be better
  • Overall
The Motorola Z9 is a great device for those who want RAZR style in a slider type of phone. With a plethora of modern features, the Motorola Z9 is one of the most attractive midrange consumer phones on the market. Well worth the money, if you like the maroon color it’s currently available in.
