Motorola Q Review
The Motorola Q, often compared to the Motorola RAZR when it comes to just how impressively thin the phone is, is a wonderful smartphone for any cell phone using looking for a phone that offers a great look with lots of impressive features. It offers clear calls, a music player, and also, email capabilities. The only downfall for the Q is that it, as well as its calling plans, can be just a bit pricey. Which, for those looking for a phone of this caliber, may be well worth the price for its functionality?
The Motorola Q is quite wide, measuring in at 2.5 inches across. However, it is only 0.5 inches thick and weighs a mere 4 ounces. It offers users a bright, and very clear 320 by 240 screen, as well as a raised keyboard in the QWERTY style. Users will find a scroll wheel, as well as a button on the side of the unit mimicking the design of the BlackBerry. There is also a five-way cursor pad found above the keyboard, which mimics those found on the Palm Treo handheld devices. Both sets of keys allow users to easily navigate the phone's options while only have to use just one hand. You'll also find a mini SD card slot on the opposite edge of the phone, across from the scroll wheel. This is a great feature, considering some phones aren't equipped with such a slot, therefore making it impossible to add much-needed memory. Users will find that the sound quality of the Motorola Q to be one of the best heard in today's cell phones. Its reception is crystal clear, and is often compared to the reception found in both the RAZR V3c and the Motorola E815. Users will be surprised to find that the sound heard through the speakerphone and the earpiece, as well as through the Bluetooth headsets is very loud and clear, while transmission is considered just about perfect.
The music player found in the Motorola Q is above average, which could be credited to the support offered to Bluetooth stereo. Since it is a Windows Mobile Smartphone, the Motorola Q has the ability to play both MP3 and WMA files, as well as those protected WMA files that have been downloaded from compatible music sources such as Rhapsody and Yahoo! Music. Although the playback from the music player is great, trying to do other tasks, such as downloading email while listening to the music player, will cause a little skipping. But, there is a great feature for those who want to continue listening to a favorite song even though they are receiving an incoming call. If a call comes through to the phone while you are listening to the music player, the music that is currently being listened to will pause itself, and will resume play from the same spot once the call has been terminated. As with many phones that offer media capabilities such as a music player and a digital camera, the Motorola Q also offers a video option. This option has gotten mixed reviews. During testing, the phone was found to work rather quickly in some instances. However, in other instances, the video option was a bit slower and the video player itself offered choppy play.
