Motorola MOTO Z10

 Motorola MOTO Z10

It's take two for Motorola's kick slider concept. With the MOTO Z10, the phone maker has refined the back-bending sliderphone quirkiness of last year’s Z8 with an upgraded features list and a more sober design.

The MOTO Z10 is geared up with high-speed HSDPA 3G data connectivity; a 3.2-megapixel camera with enhanced imaging and video software; and is powered by the Symbian operating system and UIQ user interface.

The Motorola MOTO Z10 is an upgraded version of the MOTO Z8 and features a nearly identical design to its predecessor. Motorola’s goals when building the MOTO Z10 included making it easy enough to use and attractive enough for the average user. It fills these goals very well. Although it has no features to make it appealing to the modern business man or woman, it does offer enough unique and interesting features to appeal to those who are interested in high tech gadgets.
The Motorola MOTO Z10 was announced in January 2008 as a quad band GSM device. This means that it can be used anywhere in the world simply by exchanging its SIM card when you arrive at your new destination. The Motorola MOTO Z10 also includes support for 3G networks, but only on the European and Asian band, leaving only 2G support for the United States and other parts of the world.

Measuring in at approximately four and a half inches by two inches by a half of an inch, the Motorola MOTO Z10 is a large phone. It is also mildly heavy at 115 grams.

Although the Motorola MOTO Z10 features an impressive 384 hours of standby time, actual talk time on a fully charged battery is rather poor. Expect to be able to talk on your Motorola MOTO Z10 only for 5 hours before you have to recharge the device.

One of the best features of the Motorola MOTO Z10 is its impressive screen. It is 2.2 inches in size and capable of displaying 240 by 320 pixels. While other phones feature a screen of this size, the Motorola MOTO Z10’s is designed to display 16 million colors, making it one of the best screens in the industry.

Also built into the phone is a 3.2 megapixel digital camera. The camera allows for 30 fps video and features a flash and autofocus ability. The phone also packs in a secondary camera for video calling.

Multimedia is one of the strong points of the Motorola MOTO Z10, and it certainly shows. The Motorola MOTO Z10 features support for a huge variety of video formats and even includes a special application for editing videos on the fly. You can also upload the videos directly to video-sharing websites like YouTube and Google Video. The Motorola MOTO Z10 also supports a large amount of audio codecs as well. Memory is expandable via microSD cards.

Other features include the Opera Internet browser, a large phone book, an alarm, a calendar, a notepad, to-do list, a calculator, a voice recorder, a speakerphone, email support, and Bluetooth 2.0 support.

  • Pros
    Attractive design
    Great multimedia features
  • Cons
No 3G support in the Americas
    Poor talk-time battery life
  • Overall
The Motorola MOTO Z10 is a great multimedia phone – but there are lots of other great multimedia phones on the market too. If you live in Europe or Asia, the 3G support is well worth it, otherwise, find a device that offers the same multimedia functions as the Motorola MOTO Z10 along with 3G support in the States.
