LG Wave-AX380 Review

LG Wave-AX380 Review

Some phones are designed for certain marketing segments while others are designed to appease every part of the populace. Phones like the iPhone and the Nokia N95 are obviously designed for those with discerning tastes in technology and style, but phones like the LG Wave-AX380 are perfect for just about anyone who needs a good, solid device that can do everything they dreamed of and so much more. This is just a plain, good phone with a decent feature set. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top – just a rock solid device.

The LG Wave-AX380 is a dual band CDMA phone that is designed to be used only in the United States and a few other places in the world. World travelers should stay away from this device, as it is only useful (technically) in America. Despite this limitation, the LG Wave-AX380 does offer 3G support over the EVDO rev.

This is a small and light phone, like many of the other LG devices on the market. Measuring in at approximately four inches by two inches by half an inch and weighing only 86 grams, the LG Wave-AX380 may be easily forgotten about if you slide it into your pocket or purse. However, as is the case with just about every tiny phone out there, the LG Wave-AX380 has a tragically short battery life. Expect only three hours of talk time or 200 hours of standby time on a single charge.

While decent, the LCD screen is nothing to get excited about. It features 176 pixels by 220 pixels in resolution and 262 thousand colors. There is also a much smaller LCD screen on the front of the phone for caller notification and various other features.

As far as features on the LG Wave-AX380 go, there is enough here to appease the average user and the tech junkie. However, unlike other phones where the included features are excellent, those built into the LG Wave-AX380 are simply average. For example, there is a digital camera although it is only 1.3 Megapixels with a four times digital zoom. There is also Bluetooth support although it is only for Bluetooth 1.1 and not 2.0. There is a music and video player, but the supported format list is surprisingly short. Memory is expandable via microSD, there is a speakerphone, and there is GPS functionality built into the device, among other things.

Pros
Small, light, and attractive
Large feature set
3G support
Cons
Terrible battery life
Most of the features are below average in quality
Overall
The LG Wave-AX380 is a great device that should be on everyone's list. While it does not have all of the cool stuff that some phones have, it does fill every niche exceedingly well. If you're looking for an all around good device, the LG Wave-AX380 may be the right choice for you.
