HTC SMT5800 Review
Released in January of 2008, the HTC SMT5800 is a smartphone style phone designed for use with the Verizon CDMA network. Apart from using the CDMA network, the HTC SMT5800 is the same phone as the HTC Vox. It packs a lot of power in a small frame and is actually somewhat attractive for a modern day smartphone. Thanks to its slide out full QWERTY keyboard, the HTC SMT5800 has a shell that looks about the same as a regular cell phone, but slightly thicker.
The HTC SMT5800 runs on the CDMA network, so it can be used only in the United States and possibly a couple of other places in the world. However, what this phone lacks in global roaming capabilities, it makes up for in data transfer speed. The HTC SMT5800 takes advantage of high-speed data transfer over the EVDO data network.
Measuring in at approximately four inches by two inches by half an inch, the HTC SMT5800 is somewhat smaller than a lot of the other smartphones on the market today. It weighs in at 4.2 ounces, which is average for cell phones in general. Overall, it is the perfect size for the pocket or the purse.
The exterior screen on the HTC SMT5800 is rather large at 2.4 inches, featuring a resolution of 320 by 240 pixels. However, the quality is lacking, as the screen can show only 65k colors.
The HTC SMT5800 includes a number of great features to go with its Windows Mobile 6 Standard Edition operating system. These include tools like Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office Mobile, and Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology.
Other features include a 2.0 megapixel camera, Bluetooth support, support for a number of audio and video formats, a full QWERTY keyboard, an alarm, a calendar, a notepad, a to-do list, a calculator, a number of voice commands, and email support.

The HTC SMT5800 is a decent smartphone for your money. If you are stuck on the Verizon network and you need the power of a consumer level smartphone, this is a great device. Unfortunately, it fills a niche that does not really need much filling. Smartphone users are either high tech junkies or corporate types, and this phone does not really offer enough to satisfy either group.
