BlackBerry RIM 9000 Review
The BlackBerry RIM 9000 is a brand new phone also known as the “BlackBerry RIM 9000 Bold”. It was announced in May 2008 as the successor to the popular BlackBerry 8800 with a number of groundbreaking evolutions in software design, screen quality, and overall design. Many people consider this smartphone to be the BlackBerry device that is designed to take on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 3G in the enterprise environment, and even dip into the high-tech consumer market as well.
The BlackBerry RIM 9000 is a quad-band GSM device capable of global roaming. This means that it can be used almost anywhere in the world by simply switching out the SIM card when you arrive at your destination. Furthermore, the BlackBerry RIM 9000 makes use of the best 3G data transfer technology, allowing for HSDPA access at 3.6 Mbits/second nearly anywhere in the world thanks to tri-band 3G support.
Measuring in at approximately four and a half inches by two and a half inches by a half of an inch and weighing in at approximately 133 grams, the BlackBerry RIM 9000 is a monster of a device. While you could probably get away with slipping this into a pair of jeans, you’re going to be better off keeping the BlackBerry RIM 9000 in a briefcase or a purse.
With the introduction of the BlackBerry RIM 9000, RIM has improved the battery life slightly, though not staggeringly. Expect to get approximately five hours of talk time or 312 hours of standby time on a single charge. Not bad for a smartphone, but not great either.
The BlackBerry RIM 9000’s screen has improved greatly in scale, but not necessarily in color quality. The front screen measures in at a massive and beautiful 480 by 320 pixels, though it supports only 65k colors. Compared to other phones like the Nokia N95 and the iPhone 3G, the BlackBerry RIM 9000 is not particularly impressive at viewing photos and videos.
