Nokia Announces 5800 XpressMusic will Come
Now it's Nokia's turn to unveil its long-awaited touchscreen mobile phone, Nokia 5800 or also known as "The Tube" after T-Mobile's Google-powered G1 was officially launched recently.
The 5800 XpressMusic features the first WVGA (640×360) resistive touchscreen display ever found on a Nokia Series 60 device, and is also the first device that will launch with Series 60 5th Edition which enables support for more resolutions, touch displays, and other improvements.
The complete featureset includes quadband EDGE/GSM, dualband W-CDMA with HSDPA support, Wi-Fi radio, built-in GPS transceiver with A-GPS support, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, microSDHC slot, microUSB port, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, video recorder, and Carl Zeiss optics.
The 5800 XpressMusic will be available in Europe by year’s end for 279 Euro/129 UK Pounds/$227 USD and it comes with a fancy plectrum-style stylus and an 8GB microSD. There are no carriers announced and it may be available from Nokia stores and online next year. This is also Nokia’s first Comes With Music phone, a service that offers unlimited music downloads for the first year of ownership.The5800 XpressMusic is expected to be released later this quarter with no US pricing information available at this time. In related news, Nokia also announced that it will bring both the Comes With Music subscription service and the bespoke version of the 5800 XpressMusic enabled with the service along with the N95 and 5610 next year to the US.
