HTC confirm no Touch HD for the USA
HTC has taken to the micro blog service Twitter to announce that it will not be offering a version of the hotly anticipated Touch HD now on sale in France and Germany.
No further details were given on why the manufacturer has decided not to offer the device in North America, but speculation points to its focus on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro models in the US leading to a potential cannibalization of sales if a third Touch series device were to be offered soon after those devices have had little time on the market. Other rumors reach further and state that HTC may be thinking about an Android version of the Touch HD.
Update: HTC has released a statement to the press that states surprise at the level of demand for the device and clarifies the reason for the lack of a US 3G version, stating that the engineering time needed for a US 3G version would render the device obsolete by the time it would theoretically launch here, and that the company has different design goals for the US market.
