30 Million Windows Phone 7 phone will be sold before 2012?
Microsoft sets its goal on selling 30 million Windows Phone 7 handsets in 2011.There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a bit too optimistic when it comes to setting a projected figure for a tally of phones expected to be sold during the course of a year. However, setting the bar high right away can also prove to be stressful in attempting to maintain a level of success that will no doubt be gauged by growth versus the competition. Microsoft is already talking about some big numbers surrounding the sales potential for its Window Phone 7 handsets even though we're still in the developmental stage.
During a ReMix event held in Paris yesterday, the Redmond-based company displayed a slide that clearly displayed how the company intends on selling 30 million Windows Phone 7 handset for the entire 2011 year. Now it's worth noting that the figure is based on IDC projections, but it's more surprising that it only takes into account Windows Phone 7 powered handsets and nothing else – so that means the “Windows Phone” powered KIN ONE and TWO are out of the mix. A
This seems a lot especially for a new platform but the company is expecting that 40% of the handsets sold in 2011 will be smartphones (compared to only 14% in 2010) and hopes to grab a piece of the pie and generate money through the licensing fee and services integrated in WP7.
